Ulster CX Series

The Ulster CX Series kicks off this weekend as Apollo CT host the first round of the season at Lurgan Park. All the best to our members who will be competing at this event.

Date: Sunday 6 October 2019
Event: Round 1 - Ulster Cyclo-Cross Series 2019
Venue: Lurgan Park
Host club: Apollo CT

Course Description:
Lurgan Park offers cyclists a superb venue for off road riding in pleasant surroundings. The cyclo-cross course is classified as a fast, flowing and challenging track and yet suitable for even novice riders so no excuses for not turning up and enjoying cyclo-cross at its best. With a new course, developed with the help of local riders, we are hoping to offer a balance of open racing, with long straights and technical areas. We have kept the well-known and enjoyed mass start. You then enter open switch backs and straights, which should thin the group out, before passing the pits and entering the new technical part of the course. The skills section to the race is centred around the wooded section with roots, tight corners and off camber. You will need to concentrate hard to remain fast. You’ll pass the pits again after hitting the technical area of the course, then onto tarmac before you head around to the start/finish line and start again.

We’re hoping this new course design will lead to close balanced racing for all. This course should give everyone a great introduction into the cyclo-cross calendar. This is an ideal chance for riders to experience the venue which has held Irish Cyclo-cross Championships in the past. We all love a good cheer during a race and designed this with the spectator in mind as most of the racing can be viewed from the start/finish straight, so bring along the cow bells and cheer your family along as they race around this great course and enjoy a warm Apollo welcome.

The entrance to the course is situated within the car park of Waves Leisure Complex in Queen St, (just off the main street) Lurgan. Co Armagh. The approach roads will be signed on the morning of the event. Use the car park to your right when entering the main gates.

PCC Success at IC4

*PCC Success at IC4*

The Interclub season finished last night with the Crit hosted by Square Wheelers. Congratulations to Glenn Phair who finished 3rd Male for the Series and to Ruth Mason who won the Ladies Category. Well done to all our members who competed in the various events over the last few months.

PCC's Fermanagh Bun Run

PCC went on a little trip to the Lakelands of Fermanagh for their weekly Bun Run. Sixty great miles around Lower Lough Erne with a coffee stop in the beautiful Thatch Coffee Shop in Belleck before returning to Enniskillen and a hot shower and lunch in the Killyhevlin Hotel. Thanks to Tracy for organising and to everyone who cycled today. Great craic in all kinds of weather.

A great finish in the A4 category of the Clogher Valley Wheelers GP saw PCC’s Paul Smith rewarded with a podium place. A strong sprint saw him come from 13th to finish 2nd. All the best to Paul who now moves to A3.

Location Location Location

It’s was all about location for our members over the Easter weekend. From the Moy to the Mournes to Mallorca, from Lough Neagh to Killary Fjord, Seagahan to Slieve Gullion, Keady Mountain to Torr Head and from Divis Mountain to the Dark Hedges and some local miles to Blend & Batch, our members enjoyed getting out and about and racking up some sunny miles.

Bann Valley Classic GP

Sunday saw Matt Sinton head to the Bann Valley Classic GP as the race season continues. The weather wasn't the kindest, especially with the windy conditions as 60 riders set off in A4 group. With 3 miles to go to the finish, a small breakaway formed and with no sign of the bunch wanting to chase them down, Matt made the decision to put the head down and go catch them. His determination paid off and a hard fought sprint to line ended with 2nd place. With that result Matt now moves up to the A3 category to join Marek. Well done Matt.
